Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has helped make her one of the top American actors. Born to a famous playwright's father but being raised by a single mother, who earned her living as a nurse, she became interested in theatre while having summers spent with her father, eventually studying acting, initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After two years of the graduation, she began an Broadway career. A few years later, she was in the world of television. Since then, she has appeared appearing in a variety of films, TV shows and stage performances. Over the course of her career, she won many awards, including the two Golden Globe Awards. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards, and three Oscar Awards nominations. In spite of all the recognitions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she will continue to perform on stage and screen.
