Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967. She was born in Atlanta. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer who was also the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. The Robertses' father was interested in the theater at an early stage. When he was an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, he was cast in an military production starring Betty Lou Bredemus who was as well in the air force. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and, in 1956, their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter was a student at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957 they quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University. In 1960, the couple moved to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964, Walter along with Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning TV show titled Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou established the Actors and Writers Workshop. The program ran for 6 years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also also known as Lisa) as well as Julia (also called Julie) at the time.
